Clinical Supervision Training Program: 300 Level Workshop Series

This series is an an interactive set of workshops that prepares licensed clinicians for competent, ethical, and culturally responsive clinical supervision. The 300 level workshops are the relational and applied aspects of supervision, spanning essential specialty topics such as group supervision, trauma informed and culturally responsive supervision, and ethical difficulties in supervision.  The series is delivered through live, virtual workshops, that combines didactic learning with case vignettes and group breakout rooms.

The 300 level series is the 2nd tier of the 45 hour Clinical Supervision Training Program and allows for a total of 18 hours of CEU’s through NASW-CO and NBCC.  While it’s recommended that workshops are taken in order, it is not required.

301: Group Supervision Essentials: Structure, Stages, and Facilitation Skills 

6 hours   |   Thursday, 9/17, 9:00 – 5:00 MT

Objectives

• Outline the key components in setting up effective group supervision and name 3 benefits individual vs. group supervision

• Learn to develop structured sessions, incorporating strategies and activities that elevate interpersonal dynamics and group cohesion

• Ability to apply various stages of group development to analyze and enhance the needs and functioning of supervision groups

• Integrate key facilitation techniques, such as balancing process and content, providing effective feedback, and using activities for connection, to maintain group cohesion, and address diverse participant roles

• Identify common group challenges such as managing monopolizing, quiet, or expert roles, by implementing actionable strategies and ethical considerations tailored to these scenarios

• Apply methods for evaluating the effectiveness of group supervision, using feedback mechanisms and performance measures to assess group progress and individual development

302:  Trauma Informed & Culturally Affirming Supervision

6 hours   |   Thursday, 9/24, 9:00 – 5:00 MT

Objectives

• Describe key principles of trauma-informed care and trauma-informed supervision and apply these concepts to support supervisee growth, development, and professional sustainability

• Recognize signs of stress, burnout, secondary traumatic stress, and vicarious trauma in supervisees and identify supervisory interventions that promote resilience and well-being

• Evaluate the ethical responsibilities of supervisors in creating physically, emotionally, and psychologically safe supervisory environments

• Identify at least one model or framework of culturally affirming supervision and discuss its application within the supervisory relationship

• Analyze how relational dynamics, power, positionality, and socio-cultural identities influence the supervisory relationship, and apply culturally responsive and relationally informed supervision practices

• Examine the influence of personal narratives, cultural identities, positionality, and assumptions about power on supervisory presence and practice

303:  Ethics in Action:  Dilemmas, Decisions, and Doing What’s Right 

6 hours   |   Friday, 9/25, 9:00 – 5:00 MT

Objectives

• Identify common ethical dilemmas in clinical supervision

• Apply relevant codes of ethics and regulatory guidelines to analyze and respond to these situations with clarity and confidence

• Utilize a structured ethical decision-making model to navigate complex supervisory dynamics, including issues related to dual relationships, cultural humility, gatekeeping, and supervisee autonomy.

• Reflect on the role of personal values, power, and professional responsibility in ethical decision-making, and develop strategies to integrate integrity, insight, and transparency into your supervisory practice

• Implement strategies to foster supervisory relationships that prioritize integrity, transparency, and accountability while supporting supervisee growth and client welfare

• Develop proactive practices, documentation strategies, and supervisory agreements to establish clear ethical guardrails and reduce the likelihood of future dilemmas
